Is The Glass Half Full or Is It Half Empty?

By: Carrie Hughes

The question “Is the glass half full or is it half empty?” is an idiom commonly used to explain how some people perceive situations differently.

In the practice of real estate “Is the glass half full or is it half empty?” is more than just a philosophical question. It is a question about attitude and about how one agent perceives the market versus another agent’s perception. Years ago, a broker cautioned me to never ask more than one agent a question whose answer garnered a personal opinion. He believed if you were to ask three different agents a question, you would surely get three different answers!

Come on now. Is the glass half full or is it half empty? I want to know. I want to be sure that the market really is good. I want to be confident that my students new real estate licenses will help achieve their dreams. I must have the assurance that when I tell people that they are pursuing their dreams at the right time, that it is a truth! I believe it, but do you? The glass is half full for me because I believe in what I dream. I have been there. I have been to the top of the mountain. I believe, without a doubt, that if I can do it, anyone can do it!

Is the glass half full or half empty? How you answer that question could tell a great deal about how you will practice real estate. If you perceive things negatively, might it eventually rear its ugly head in the form of your attitude, and will your core beliefs be transformed negatively? If you see the glass as half full, can you believe that no matter what the market does, you can do it! It is time to position yourself, it is time to learn as much as you can about practicing real estate, and it is time you reach out and touch your goals, rather than just dreaming about them.

It is an exciting time to be in the real estate market. Great things are happening all around us! Our glass is half full! If your glass is half empty, maybe you should get out there, talk with some people, pass out some cards, and let others know you want their help in referring people to you. If you are an undercover agent, how will they know? If you do not leave the house, how will they know? If you do not wear a name badge, if you do not pass out cards, how will they know? You can do it! You invested time and money getting that license. Don’t let it go to waste! If you still need post licensing, sign up for it! If you need CE, take it! If you still need a license and still have a passion for practicing real estate, what in the world are you waiting for? There will never be a better time! Look at the glass, make sure it is half full, and then add to it so that it is overflowing! Call us. We want to help!
