Be Careful What We Say
2018-09-17

Recall the children’s Sunday school song that says “be careful little mouth what you say, be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear.” It’s a simple song that encourages children to realize that their creator is watching them in everything they say, see, hear, and do. This simplistic advice can go a long way in the business world.

Each time we encounter another human being we must be careful what we say. Words go a long way to harm other agents, real estate brokerage firms, and other real estate agents. Not long ago there was a student who we absolutely could not satisfy. Try as we might, this lady was vengeful, mean-spirited, and callous. In an effort to hurt us, she wrote a rather distasteful review of our school. Even though we tried to appease her, it just could not be done. We experienced, first-hand, how a consumer can affect public perception of a business even though we responded to her with kindness and respect.

TEAM Hughes Real Estate School strives to meet the needs of its students. We have always prided ourselves on being a school of people, not numbers. It’s important to us to build relationships, and we teach our students that they need to approach the industry they are about enter the same way. Relationships are the cornerstone of any business, especially a service business.

We must be careful what we say. There have been times when some of our instructors have been frustrated with students and when that happens, it shows in their demeanor and the instructors then run the risk of affecting their relationships with the students. We exist for our students. No student is of any less value than the others. Each student is important to us. We know that as our success grows, we run the risk of someone not being happy with us. This lady was not careful in what she said about our school. We have paid the price for her words.

As REALTORS®, it is important that you always exercise the golden rule. Be care what you say. Treat people kindly and with respect. If you don’t have anything good to say about someone, perhaps it is best that you say nothing. You will never please everyone, and we will always have the occasional disgruntled student who may bad-mouth us. We just keep trying. With each student who evaluates us positively, we grow in strength, and we appreciate the great reviews we receive. When the reviews are negative, it teaches us to strive harder, to hone our skills, and to be the best we can be. You may want to give TEAM Hughes Real Estate School a shot at helping you. We’ll do the best we can, and we don’t believe you’ll regret it!

We have four one-week fast track classes in October and one three-week evening class as well. Our tuition is $350 until the end of the year when the curriculum changes and tuition will increase.
