Sir Francis Bacon was given credit for first using the phrase, “Knowledge is power” in 1597, although it was believed to have been coined by Imam Ali (559-661 CE).  Over the centuries, however, others such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Hobbes have professed this powerful principle in their writings.  Today, the same principle can be applied in your career.

No matter how long a real estate agent has been licensed, knowledge is power.  There are no timelines involved in this principle.  The more you know, the more you grow.  This has always been a mantra of many successful people, some of whom practiced real estate for many years.  Hearing a saying and even agreeing with it doesn’t make it so.  I think we’d all agree that knowledge is power even though few of us apply it daily.

I recall vividly a sermon I once heard where the gist of it was, “We are like plants.  If we don’t grow, we die.”  Both Bob and I were struck by that idiom.  Not only did we discuss it frequently, but we found ourselves using it to enlighten others, not just our students.  Today, the correlation to plants and growing has become part of our lives.  We purpose to never stop growing and learning because knowledge is power, the more you know the more you grow, and we are like plants in that if we stop growing, we’ll die.  Maybe we won’t die a physical death just yet, but surely, our spirits will not enlarge the borders of our minds.

It’s important for me to grow, to learn, to experience.  I am someone who never graduated from college until I was in my 50’s.  I am someone who continues to take courses regularly.  I am someone who has learned as much about technology as I can even though I don’t necessarily need everything I’ve learned.  You might ask why someone like me would spend time and money learning new concepts, and my only response would be knowledge is power, the more you know the more you grown, and I’m like a plant who needs to grow to keep from dying or fading away.

TEAM Hughes Real Estate School is about to make some drastic changes, and admittedly, I am kind of freaked out about them.  Bob and I recognize that it’s getting close to the time when we should slow down some, so we are surrounding ourselves with some awesome instructors.  We’ll be letting them take the reins and we’ll be in the background doing all the technical and administrative stuff.  This is a huge leap for us!  We won’t give up teaching completely because teaching gives us growth, but we recognize our energy levels are not what they used to be.

The quality of real estate education will remain the same, hopefully, and we’ll be ready to step in if and when we are needed, so please remember TEAM Hughes for all your educational needs.  With more instructors, we’ll be offering even more courses, so keep an eye out on our website.  Call us so we can help get you started in your real estate career if you’re a newbie.
